ANSYS - Structural Nonlinearities : Contact
Duration : 2 days| Cost : $1000| Interface : Classic
Prerequisites : Although it is not our policy to deny students entry into a particular class, we recommend the following prerequisites in order for you to get the most out of this learning experience. For your own sake please ensure you have the appropriate qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Basic engineering knowledge
  • ANSYS - Introduction : Part 1
  • ANSYS - Structural Nonlinearities : Basic
What you will learn
  • Everything (almost!) you ever wanted to know about contact in ANSYS...
  • How different contact algorithms work and when to use each one
  • The importance of FKN
  • Dealing with initial penetration and/or gaps
  • Handling frictional contact
  • How to setup and use rigid targets
  • Various forms of MPCs
  • Using Bolt Pretension (PRETS179) elements
  • Interface elements, gasket material model, and solving gasket problems
  • Introduction to cohesive zone modeling
Summary

Contact, contact, and more contact... This class offers a comprehensive coverage of using contact elements in ANSYS. Everything from the different algorithms, to dealing with initial gaps, to rigid targets with pilot nodes. Even the newer line-line contact elemnts are covered. Plus more about MPCs than you ever dreamed possible as well as a brief look at contact in multiphysics applications.

Then, once you are a contact expert, we turn our attention to a few other forms of joining parts together, bolt pre-tension, and spot welds. Finally, a look at the interface (INTERXXX) elements and using them to model gaskets as well as simulating debonding. As with other classes, there are many hands on workshops to supplement the lecture material and give you some real experience using the code.
